Still dividing your apartment's water bill equally?
Low-consumption residents shouldn't pay for heavy users. Bruntab installs a smart sub water meter in every unit, detects leaks early and automates individual water billing.
Does your building have these problems?
When water consumption is communal and the bill is split evenly, the same disputes repeat every billing cycle — for residents and managers alike.
Residents complain every billing cycle
The shared water bill is a recurring source of arguments between neighbours and the building manager.
Fair residents pay unfair costs
Low-consumption units end up subsidising high-consumption neighbours on every bill.
Water leaks remain hidden
A silent leak can run for weeks inside a wall or under a unit — only discovered once the bill arrives.
Manual calculations waste time
Building managers spend hours every month dividing a single bill across dozens of units by hand.
No visibility into unit consumption
Nobody knows the actual water consumption of each unit — only the building total ever gets measured.
Rising tariffs make it worse every year
As progressive water tariffs climb, shared billing grows more expensive for everyone — year after year.
One main meter, one shared bill, and no number for each unit’s consumption
The water utility measures the building’s total use, while internal pipework and each unit’s share remain invisible on the main bill.
The main bill shows only total use
The building entrance meter combines apartments and common areas such as parking and rooftop facilities, so it cannot reveal each unit’s actual share.
Approximate formulas are not consumption
Allocation by floor area, occupancy, or equal shares cannot account for different habits, vacant units, or hidden leaks.
Progressive tariffs amplify the error
Combined building consumption reaches higher tariff tiers, forcing efficient residents to subsidize heavier users when unit data is unavailable.
The practical answer is not a separate utility connection—it is accurate internal measurement. By installing cold and hot water submeters after each unit’s shut-off valves, the same main bill can be allocated using recorded, defensible consumption.
Bruntab solves all of these.
By installing a smart sub water meter in each unit and connecting it to our online platform, Bruntab measures real consumption, detects leaks early, and issues a fair, individual water bill for every unit.

Bruntab Energy smart consumption submetering system
A solution associated with 30–70% lower shared water bills
From installation to invoice — in four simple steps.
Bruntab handles the full apartment water meter separation process, so the building manager only logs in to download the bills.
Install sub meters
Bruntab engineers install cold and hot sub water meters after the shut-off valve of each unit — usually without major demolition.
Collect hourly consumption
Meter-reading devices send each unit's consumption to the cloud every hour, so nothing is estimated or missed.
Calculate each unit automatically
The platform allocates the building's main water bill across units by real consumption, including official progressive tariffs.
Generate individual bills
The manager logs in, and the software issues a separate downloadable PDF bill for every unit — ready to print or send.
What you get with smart water meter separation
Designed primarily to separate communal apartment water meters, install sub-meters, and issue an individual water bill per unit — while helping managers monitor consumption and residents track their own use.
Fair billing
Each unit pays only for its own real consumption — never for a neighbour's.
Water leak detection
Continuous-flow water leak detection flags hidden leaks inside units before they become costly.
Online monitoring
Residents and managers see consumption levels live, on computer or mobile.
Automatic PDF invoices
A separate downloadable PDF bill is generated for every unit — no manual math.
Mobile access
Every resident can check their own meter reading from their phone at any time.
Historical reports
Track trends, compare periods, and export reports to spot high-consuming units.
Saves manager's time
No agent needed to read meters and no spreadsheets — billing takes minutes.
Reduces water waste
Visibility alone cuts consumption — customers see 30%–70% lower bills.
How communal water meter separation actually works
One main bill, no per-unit visibility
In large cities and towns, the water and sewage department installs one meter at the building's entrance and sends one bill for all residents. This prevents accurate calculation of each unit's consumption — and of communal areas such as parking lots and rooftops — so building management looks for ways to separate apartment water meters and the building's water connection through the city's water and sewage department.
A sub water meter after every shut-off valve
Bruntab Energy, with knowledge acquired from Brunata Denmark and over 14 years of experience in separating water, electricity, and gas bills for residential buildings, provides the ability to record the exact water consumption of each meter over the internet — by installing cold and hot sub-meters after the shut-off valve of each unit and installing meter-reading devices. This consumption data, stored and viewable every hour in the Bruntab system, is used to separate the water bill received from the water and sewage department.
From hourly readings to a PDF bill per unit
To fairly separate the water bill, the actual consumption of each unit must be known — so a meter is installed at the water entry point of every apartment. In the Bruntab system the hourly consumption of each meter is viewable. When the main water bill for the building is issued, the building manager logs into Bruntab's online software, and a separate bill is generated by the software for each unit in PDF format, which the manager can send or print.
The cost of doing nothing
The communal nature of water consumption — the lack of water meter separation for units and shared payment for water shares — has become one of the biggest problems for residents and management of residential, administrative, and commercial buildings. The exponential rise in water bills has increased costs for units, and the lack of clarity around each unit's consumption forces low consumers to pay as much as high consumers from the main bill. The heavy amounts of water bills and complaints from apartment residents about the unfair distribution of costs push building management toward separating the water meters of each unit.
What Bruntab installs and runs
Bruntab Energy, by installing a smart sub-metering system for each unit, not only separates the apartment water meters but also issues a monetary bill for each unit based on actual consumption using its advanced software. Each unit can view their meter consumption on mobile and computer, and this system makes it easy to identify leaks in the building.
